The Wheelhouse Story

 

Since 2001, we have worked in traditional commercial gyms, boutique personal training studios, group fitness and college level athletics. Wheelhouse Academy was born out of the notion of building a supportive community that empowers people to learn the benefits of exercising the right way. Learning to move correctly is just as important as the physical results. That’s where the idea of the Wheelhouse “Academy” comes in.

As a member, you will not only learn workout routines, you will come to understand why you are doing certain movements and the benefits they have on your health. You will have full access to Your Gym, seven days a week with open gym accessibility throughout the day. You will also have access to our staff to guide you on your journey with accountability meetings that we call “Map Out Meetings” where we lay out the next focus points for you and the assigned homework attached to help you optimize your health and fitness.

4 Ways To Train

Powerlifting Program

Our Powerlifting Program allows you to slow down the pace, get laser focused and grind out the work while improving on the foundational movement patterns of pulling, pushing, pressing, squatting and hinging. In class, we will break down each lift and understand the specific positions and progressions to the lifts to develop power, strength, and bone density, while also teaching proper breathing techniques and mechanics. This program is great for any fitness level. Your coach will meet you wherever you are and help you “map out your march” to your goals. Powerlifting classes can be a foundational program for those who are new to fitness or lifting to prepare for our other programs, but can also be robust enough to be a stand-alone, primary training program.

Olympic Weightlifting Program

Our Olympic Weightlifting Program is an option we have for athletes who want to dive deeper into a more dynamic and technical approach to lifting weights. This strength program relies heavily on techniques and movement patterns that are more demanding of speed, positioning, mobility, and power development. Specific to the sport of Olympic Weightlifting, you will be taught and trained in all of the components and variations of the Clean, Jerk, and Snatch. Ultimately, our goal is to provide proper Olympic weightlifting training that includes a regimen of weightlifting exercises, as well as isometrics and other strength training techniques that build explosive strength and ensure proper body alignment. If you’re looking for a more competitive training option, our Olympic Weightlifting team will provide guidance in preparation for your very first meet, or provide support for seasoned competitors looking for a new club home. 

Conditioning Development Program

No “same old, same old” here. Everyday is a new and challenging combination of movements. You’ll utilize your body weight, barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, medballs and steel mace – all of which are designed to improve your cardio, strength, endurance, and stamina. With the proper scaling and progressions, these classes will challenge your fitness limits and help you reach your goals. You will come out faster, leaner and have a lot more grit in you, with an assurance that you’ll leave having felt valued and respected.

Open Gym Access

If class times are the time for learning and growth, then open gym hours are the time for extra credit, homework, and making up missed assignments and/or classes. We know that consistency is King when it comes to results, but we also understand that life throws you curves every once in a while. As an open-gym member, you have full access to the gym during the hours when there are no classes – morning, afternoon and evening options are available. We want you to keep consistent, keep motivated, and keep moving. So if that means staying after class to work on a specific skill, taking time for extra mobility or cardio work, or simply coming in to sweat because you're done with your workday early, the gym and all of its glory is yours!
